Welcome to your weekly top up of newsbites from me, Charlie Marillier, British Powerlifting’s CEO.
2027 NATIONALS CALENDAR
Coming live to the website soon, I wanted to share with you the 2027 Nationals Calendar to highlight some of the changes.

Events Overview for 2027
You can see below how each competition feeds in to each groups European and World championships. This has always been the main driver as to how we organise each competition calendar and with the slight changes to Sub-Junior European championships, it changes much of the structure of ours.

You can also see many of our nationals are still inviting bids. If you would like to send a bid in to host a National Championships, please email competitions@britishpowerlifting.org to discuss it further.
BRITISH UNIVERSITIES CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026
This weekend saw hundreds of university student descend on Nottingham Trent Uni for the BUCS Championships and what an event it was!
We saw lifters achieve all manner of excellence, winners crowned and celebrations galore.
You can see many highlights on our Socials as well as the incredible pictures/videos from White Lights Media.
I would like to congratulate all the winners on their incredible achievements, the future of Powerlifting is great!
I would also like to pay special thanks to those that made this competition happen, including but not limited to:
- The competitions Promoter, Rudi Norris
- Our competitions team including Adam Fosbrook, Adam Reilly, Josh Inman, James Kemmery
- The referees and volunteers, they all played such a vital part in ensuring rules were adhered to and the lifters remained safe on the platform
- The incredible media providing coverage for us all to be able to watch, catch it again on our Youtube Channel
- NTU for their fantastic support of the event, really going to all ends to help us provide such an enjoyable competition for all.
As always, after events, we look to gather feedback from those who attended. Whether a lifter, coach, spectator or volunteer, please let us know your thoughts so we can continue improving.
EQUIPPED TASTER AT BUCS
As part of our ongoing push to grow all areas of Powerlifting, and following feedback from our Equipped focused Open Forum back in January, we have been able to provide Equipped Powerlifting taster stands at our National competitions.
This weekend, Jacob Wymer took a stock of Equipped Powerlifting items, a rack and bench and welcomed everyone to come and learn about Equipped lifting.
He had a lot of people try out some equipment and experience the difference between Classic and Equipped Powerlifting. You will see the Equipped Stand at the upcoming Juniors, Masters and Open Nationals for 2026 so please feel free to go and talk to the Equipped Coaches.
We are working to integrate Equipped Powerlifting in to the Clubs framework to highlight areas around the country that has Equipped Coaches, equipment and facilities. When this is ready I will be talking about it here and directing people on where to get the information.
If you are an Equipped Powerlifting coach, run a facility that trains Equipped lifters or are part of the Equipped community and would like to support this, please let us know.

COACHING LICENCE DEVELOPMENT
Following a very productive Open Forum with some leading coaches and members, along with updates from the BUCS championships, some clarifications in the coaching licence will be published before Juniors championships.
Whilst you are waiting for the update, please use this guidance video on how to apply for your licence.
Some items to remember:
- Apply for your licence sooner rather than later, applications after a certain date will not be accepted (date to be published)
- Uploading certificates does not give you the licence. You have to apply for the licence. This application process is the only way the Coaching Committee can approve you for a licence.
- You can find the latest guidance document, updated December 2025, to check whilst we approve updates before Juniors.
WHAT’S COMING UP:
- European Equipped Championships, 1-10 May, Czechia
- British Classic Sub-Junior and Junior Championships, 14-17 May, Surrey Sports Park, Surrey
- World Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championships (all ages), May 23 – 31, Warsaw Poland
- British Masters Classic Championships, June 6-7 in Oriam Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh
Check out all the upcoming championships from British Powerlifting and you can find all the International Competitions from the IPF Calendar.
