SBD British Open Classic Championships 2026
The SBD British Open Championships brings together Britain’s leading classic powerlifters for the 2026 national championships.
Expressions of interest are now open for athletes who have achieved the published qualifying total at an IPF-sanctioned competition.

Who can enter?
You can register your interest if you have achieved the relevant SBD British Open qualifying total during the qualifying period at an IPF-sanctioned competition.
You’ll need:
- Your valid British Powerlifting membership number
- Your age category and weight class
- Details of the competition where you achieved your qualifying total
- Your squat, bench press and deadlift results
- Your OpenPowerlifting profile, where available
There is no payment required when registering your interest.
Reaching the qualifying total allows you to put your name forward, but does not automatically guarantee a place.

How selection works
Places are limited within each weight class.
Once expressions of interest close, British Powerlifting will verify submitted totals. Places are then offered in order of verified qualifying total within each weight class, up to the number of places available.
If you are offered a place, you will receive an email with instructions to accept your place and pay your entry fee.
Athletes outside the initial places may remain in contention, if a place becomes available.
Entry fee
£120 Payment is only taken once you have been offered a place.
First British Championship?
If you have achieved the qualifying total, you are eligible to put yourself forward even if you have never competed at a British Championship before.
Registering your interest does not guarantee selection — your result will first be verified and considered as part of the entry process.
Unable to qualify or compete?
If illness, injury, exams, an unavoidable work commitment or major travel disruption prevented you from achieving a qualifying total — or from competing at the required championship — you may be able to apply for dispensation.
Dispensation requests are considered by the British Powerlifting Dispensation Panel and supporting evidence will normally be required.
