About British Powerlifting

British Powerlifting is now an official National Governing Body

Formed out of the powerlifting section of the British Weighlifters Association (BWLA), the original governing body of powerlifting in the UK since the inception of the sport. BWLA (then BAWLA) was a founder member of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) in 1973 and of the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) the following year. As the UK's IPF affiliate, British Powerlifting can trace its origins back to the earliest days of powerlifting. All British Powerlifting titles and records can be traced back to the beginning of powerlifting.

All of our anti-doping testing is carried out at our own expense. Elite GB lifters are selected by the IPF for inclusion in the Registered Testing Pool (RT) along with 144 lifters in the Testing Pool and National Testing Pool. All are subject to Out of Competition Testing (OCT). Read More >
