Competitions

British Powerlifting has a comprehensive competition programme starting at local level and progressing through national up to British Championships. These attract a large number of lifters, for example over 400 athletes competed in the 2015 British Classic Championships. We send teams to all European and World Championships across all the age groups and disciplines with a high degree of success.

You are never too young or old to make a start in powerlifting; competitors aged 14 year and upwards are welcome. Equally, you are never too old. Several 70+ competitors still represent Britain internationally and many 'masters' lifters only take the sport up in their 40s or 50s. Powerlifting is a great sport with an unrivalled camaraderie which promotes health, strength and vitality. If you decide to take your first steps in the sport and want to lift in an independently drug tested organisation with an established network of local divisions, choose British Powerlifting.

  • YNE Open

    Details: Entry is open to all YNEPF lifters and will open 8 weeks out from the competition date (9th September). Entry will close 3 weeks before the competition date.

    This competition will be capped at 100 lifters.

    At this time it is not anticipated that guest spaces will be offered for this competition.

  • Powerpallooza!

    Details: This competition will be held at the legendary Power & Fitness Gym in Liverpool, home of two of British Powerlifting's top lifters, Stephen "Screamer" Manuel and Jord McLaughlin.

    The Saturday afternoon session will be novices only ie people who have NEVER competed before. The Sunday session will be an open age class competition. We welcome classic and equipped, bench only and full power and we anticipate that we will have a small number of places available to guests from other divisions.

    Entry will open on 16th September and will be via this website page. Non-refundable entry fee is £20 (half price for sub-juniors).

  • YNE Equipped and Novices

    Details: Entry is open to all YNEPF novice classic / equipped lifters (0 or 1 competitions to date), entry will open 8 weeks out from the competition date, places to guest lifters will be opened 6 weeks out from the competition date. Entry will close 3 weeks out from the competition date.

    This competition will be capped at 50 lifters.

  • South East Championships

  • SWPLA November Bitesize Competition

    Location: Swindon Barbell, Unit 1, Trow Lane, Lyneham, Wiltshire, SN15 4DL

    Details: Maximum of 28 lifters, with one morning session, weigh-in at 8am, and one afternoon session, weigh-in at 1pm. Priority will be given to South West members, and a waiting list will be held for any entries received after the competition is full.

    Entry fees: £25 senior, £15 junior.

  • NM Four Counties championship

  • British Junior Classic Championship

    Details: You must lift in these to be considered for international selection in 2018 and must be a sub-junior or junior as per IPF rules.

  • NW Christmas Competition

  • British Masters Classic Qualilfier

    Location: Stanhope Hall, Horncastle.

    Details: This is an additional competition to facilitate selections for the European Masters Classic Championship March 2018. Anyone wishing to be considered for the GBR team must compete here.

    Entries will also be accepted for any lifter becoming a master in 2018.

    Provisional programme:

    Saturday - Women 47kg to 72kg and Men 59kg to 74kg

    Sunday - Women 84kg & 84kg+ and Men 83kg to 120kg+

    The entry form will go live in September.

    Details: All lifters wishing to be considered for international bench press selection must lift in these championships.

    These will be run in parallel with the full power equipped championships.

  • British Classic Bench Press Championships

  • British Womens Classic Championships

    Details: All lifters wishing to be considered for international selection in 2018 must lift in these championships.

    These championships have been brought forward to ease calendar congestion mid-year.

    The qualifying period will be the 12 months prior to the championships, i.e. any total done in a approved championships after 25th February 2017 and before December 23rd 2017 will be accepted.

British Powerlifting is the only UK powerlifting organisation that carries out independent WADA compliant drug testing. In 2016 we conducted 100 anti-doping tests, all at our own expense. GB lifters in World Championships are registered with the IPF for Out of Competition Testing (OCT).
