Competitions

British Powerlifting has a comprehensive competition programme starting at local level and progressing through national up to British Championships. These attract a large number of lifters, for example over 400 athletes competed in the 2015 British Classic Championships. We send teams to all European and World Championships across all the age groups and disciplines with a high degree of success.

You are never too young or old to make a start in powerlifting; competitors aged 14 year and upwards are welcome. Equally, you are never too old. Several 70+ competitors still represent Britain internationally and many 'masters' lifters only take the sport up in their 40s or 50s. Powerlifting is a great sport with an unrivalled camaraderie which promotes health, strength and vitality. If you decide to take your first steps in the sport and want to lift in an independently drug tested organisation with an established network of local divisions, choose British Powerlifting.

    Who can enter?

    You must be a member of British Powerlifting for the 2025 year to enter this competition and registered in the Welsh Division of Brititsh Powerlifting. Guest spots maybe opened after one week, depending on the number of entries received.

    Warning - if you enter without membership for the correct year, or before your entry date is open then we will cancel your place when entries close and offer it to someone who has met the criteria - no exceptions.



    DO NOT enter speculatively without a current British Powerlifting membership.

    Spaces are limited and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.



    How to enter

    You can enter the competition by paying through the liftingcast entry link. This link wll be made avaliable here ASAP.

    Please ensure that your kit is all IPF-approved. There will be a kit check on the day, and any non-IPF-approved kit will not be allowed to be used.



    How to enter rack heights

    You can pre enter your rack heights, this link wll be made avaliable here ASAP. You will need to provide your BP number and date of birth, used when you registered for the competition to successfully submit your rack height.



    How to get a refund

    We will be able to offer refunds to all applicants that wish to pull out of the competition before the closing date, 12th January. Any requests for refunds past this point will not be accepted. To request a refund and removal from the competition please email your Name and GB number to adam@walespowerlifting.com

    The Quiet Focus Series competition will have lots of adjustments in place to ensure that the event is as inclusive as possible to many different needs.

    The competition will:
    - have no music, no audience, no loud MCing, no DJ lighting, no livestream and no photography
    - still comply with all the usual IPF powerlifting rules including having qualified referees so that it is a fully sanctioned event that can be used to qualify for Nationals*
    - have a dedicated safeguarding and mental health lead present on the day for you to have as a point of access for any needs or reasonable adjustments that you may need support with
    - still be a super fun powerlifting competition with lots of expert volunteers on hand to guide you through the event

    Details: The Cold Blood Classic will be returning for another year with prize money, 60+ lifters, professional livestream and this time around we'll be running the show from an external venue! We're also collaborating with White Lights Media for top tier visual presentation, livestreaming and media packages.

    We want to do things a bit different with this comp and we will be basing the athlete list on GL points rather than a first come first served basis, meaning that this is a brilliant alternative for those lifters of a higher level who might not necessarily reach the British qualifier requirements this year but still want to attend a high quality competition.

    Fill in the qualifier form and submit your best total/GL points so we can then start the process of ranking and eventually announcing those who have qualified! If you qualify we will then get in contact with a link for you to sign up.

  • Super Training Team Competition

    Details: This is a team competition. Each team must have 3 members and must be mixed (2 women and 1 man or 2 men and 1 woman).

    Each of the team members is responsible for 1 of the 3 lifts (Squat, Bench or Deadlift).

    Team scoring will be done by IPFGL points per lifter (calculated by their bodyweight and what they've lifted).

    Each entry is per team (3 lifters) and you won't need to give the 3 names until closer to the competition.

    This will be a British Powerlifting Classic competition and open to all divisions and age classes.

    The closing date is 06/04/2025, there are no refunds after this date.

    Flights and lifting times will be announced once we receive everyone's entry forms.
