Competitions

British Powerlifting has a comprehensive competition programme starting at local level and progressing through national up to British Championships. These attract a large number of lifters, for example over 400 athletes competed in the 2015 British Classic Championships. We send teams to all European and World Championships across all the age groups and disciplines with a high degree of success.

You are never too young or old to make a start in powerlifting; competitors aged 14 year and upwards are welcome. Equally, you are never too old. Several 70+ competitors still represent Britain internationally and many 'masters' lifters only take the sport up in their 40s or 50s. Powerlifting is a great sport with an unrivalled camaraderie which promotes health, strength and vitality. If you decide to take your first steps in the sport and want to lift in an independently drug tested organisation with an established network of local divisions, choose British Powerlifting.

  • NWPL Masters // NWPL Bench Press Championships

    Details: Entry will open on 23 June 2019. There will be no priority entry. Entry fee is £20 for the Masters and £15 for Bench Championships. 50% off for sub-juniors.

  • Bristol Championships 2019

    Details: The event will be limited to a maximum of 50 competitors on a first come first served basis on Sunday 18th August 2019.

    Guest places for other divisions will be allocated if they are available after the closing date of the competition. A waiting list will be held on this basis, if the event becomes full before the closing date.

    This competition can be used as a qualifier for National events taking place later in the year, in line with the British Powerlifting Qualifying Procedure.

  • British Senior Men's Classic Championships

    Location: Astor College, Dover

    Details: You must lift in these championships to be considered for international selection in 2020.

    Provisional lifting programme: Up to and including 93kg - Saturday
    105kg - 120+kg - Sunday

    Note that if there are a large number of 93kg qualifiers, this class may be split across the two days.

    Program to be confirmed after entries have closed.

    Closing date for entries is Friday 26th July 2019.

    All costs for travel arrangements are the lifter's liability and not subject to refund.

  • Christmas Spectacular III

  • Super Training Classic 2019

    Date: 14/12/2019 - 15/12/2019

    Details: 14/15th December at Super Training Gym, Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham

    This will be a Classic competition and open to all divisions and age classes. Women on the Saturday and men on the Sunday.

    There will be 100 places in total with a 50/50 split between men and women.

    This competition can be used as a qualifier for all of next year's national classic championships.

    Entries will open on the 16th September. Members of Super Training Gym can sign up from the 1st September.

    There will be an online sign-up form available on the 16th September.

    New members can join British Powerlifting in November (which will cover you for the next 14 months) and submit your membership number when you receive it.

British Powerlifting is the only UK powerlifting organisation that carries out independent WADA compliant drug testing. In 2017 we conducted some 140 anti-doping tests, all at our own expense. GB lifters in World Championships are registered with the IPF for Out of Competition Testing (OCT).
