British Championships
For the rest of the year at least, we are dependent on the lifting of COVID-19 Lockdown Restrictions, particularly when gyms will be permitted to re-open. In addition, we must decide how we can safely restart competitions in-line with Government social distancing guidelines. Each Championship will be reviewed separately and currently we have cancelled the Men's Senior Classic. This will be rescheduled for the first quarter of next year, possibly combined with the Women's.
Qualifying
The qualifying totals for 2021 are now on the website, but we have relaxed the qualifying period because of COVID-19. At least for championships in the first half of next year, totals will be accepted from 2019 as detailed in the updated qualifying procedure.
Internationals
We have decided that it is not prudent to send any teams to international championships for the rest of this year and Head Coaches are already aware. This is obviously disappointing for all concerned, but we have a duty of care to protect our lifters and officials.
New IPF Formula
A new formula has been introduced by the IPF, which is fairer across all the weight classes. Here is an analysis showing how the new formula was derived New IPF Formula. The Next Lifter scoresheet has been updated and is available here https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApWUKh6DXuZYgaJuBjkUFYS6jYjbow?e=ymCu0A
Coaching Courses
Coaching Courses will be resumed as soon as is practicable in line with current social distancing restrictions and the opening of gyms.
British Powerlifting is the only UK powerlifting organisation that has a fully WADA compliant anti-doping programme, which is independently administered by the IPF. All of our anti-doping testing is carried out at our own expense. Elite GB lifters are selected by the IPF for inclusion in the Registered Testing Pool (RT) along with 144 lifters in the Testing Pool and National Testing Pool. All are subject to Out of Competition Testing (OCT). Read More >
