Of course, we are unequivocally opposed to the use of any performance enhancing drugs and our fully WADA compliant testing is a key differentiator for British Powerlifting. Membership is conditional on adherence to our Anti-Doping Rules, which are in line with the WADA Code and approved by the IPF.

Our IPF administered anti-doping programme is well established and the first tranche of athletes have been informed of their inclusion in the out-of-competition Testing Pool. Lifters are now being selected for inclusion in the National Testing Pool and will be notified in due course. We also have several of our top lifters included in the IPF Registered Testing Pool. Whilst our contracted programme only covers national level competitions, we have agreed with the IPF that regional level testing can be carried out subject to agreement on terms and conditions. Two divisions so far have asked for testing and quotations are being obtained from the IPF. Please contact the CEO for further information for your division or Home Nation.

It's important to note that the IPF decide which competitions to attend from those listed on the website and also which athletes are selected for testing. Urine sample collection is undertaken by WADA approved organisations contracted by the IPF and these include UKAD and IDTM. Sample analysis is conducted by WADA approved laboratories and results management is the sole responsibility of the IPF. Our anti-doping programme is therefore wholly independently administered.

Our discussions with UKAD are proceeding well and we have held several video meetings with their deputy Director of Operations and Assurance Team. Before they take on our testing programme, we have to comply with their Assurance Framework. A key component of this is the preparation of a Clean Sport Education Strategy and our Anti-Doping Education Lead Dr Chris Gilbert is fronting this. Our target is for UKAD to take over our anti-doping programme in 2023 and in the interim we will continue to use the IPF.

British Powerlifting is the only UK powerlifting organisation that has a fully WADA compliant anti-doping programme, which is independently administered by the IPF. All of our anti-doping testing is carried out at our own expense. Elite GB lifters are selected by the IPF for inclusion in the Registered Testing Pool (RT) along with 144 lifters in the Testing Pool and National Testing Pool. All are subject to Out of Competition Testing (OCT). Read More >
